Highlights & Key Technologies

Masterfully Crafted to Mesmerize
Every T/x model boasts sleek, radiused designs and impeccable craftsmanship, but with the T/9x Special Edition, REL has taken it a step further. It is the subtle details that elevate these models — the badge atop takes three days to perfect, and each solid billet aluminium foot undergoes a three-day chroming process in which copper, nickel, and chrome are meticulously layered, allowing each coat a day to set before adding the next. This is the kind of attention to detail that makes REL stand out, with polished chrome and carbon fibre accents merging aesthetics with function.

The Heartbeat of Every REL
A REL’s essence lies in its driver, and REL dedicates immense care and expertise to its design and refinement. The T/9x’s driver is no exception. Its critical center cap has been upgraded with carbon fibre, enhancing stiffness for better bass articulation while reducing the driver’s moving mass. By reducing its weight by 10 grams, a faster response is achieved along with a notable 1.2 dB increase in output, making the T/9x faster, more dynamic, and just a touch louder.

Amplified Emotion
The T/9x’s amplifier embodies power and precision with its 300-watt Class A/B monoblock design. Using reliable mosfet designs with integrated heat sinks, these amplifiers have been the driving force behind the Serie T flagships since 2007, with nearly 90,000 units in circulation — most in daily use. The streamlined 8 ms input filters ensure a seamless blend between the subwoofer and speaker. With straightforward rotary analog controls for gain, crossover, and LFE gain, and an intuitive 0–180-degree phase switch, setting up the REL is straightforward and hassle-free, with no remote controls or apps required. (Standby Mode switch is only included on 220V units.)

Wireless That Doesn’t Compress the Sound
REL has developed a sterling reputation for building the finest sounding, fastest wireless systems available in the industry, never relying upon digital compression as it results in dull, lifeless sound. Instead, REL has perfected an optional Arrow wireless system so fast and dynamic that REL is comfortable encouraging the use of wireless on one channel of a pair of RELs while the other channel is connected conventionally with cable.

REL Sub-Bass System Design & Connectivity
REL products are true Sub-Bass Systems, designed to augment the performance of full-range speaker systems to provide, in certain cases, linear response below 15 Hz. To increase versatility of connection, the Serie T/x models have three separate inputs: a High Level input via Neutrik SpeakOn, a .1/LFE RCA input, and a Low Level RCA input, facilitating use with both two-channel stereo systems and AV surround sound systems. The High Level, unbalanced, dual-channel input accepts the stereo signals from the speaker terminals of your receiver, integrated amplifier, or basic amplifier, ensuring the subwoofer receives exactly the same signal as the main speakers so that the character of the bass from the main system is carried forward into the Sub-Bass System. Combined with REL’s Natural RollOff circuitry, this ensures superior integration with the main system. The amplifier’s input impedance is 150,000 ohms, in effect producing no additional load on the rest of the system, and internal circuitry allows connection to many Class D (digital) amplifiers. High Level and .1/LFE inputs can be used simultaneously; the .1/LFE input passes the low-level signal through only the required 120 Hz fourth-order filter and bypasses the crossover circuit.

Set-Safe Overload Protection
All REL Sub-Bass Systems are designed as true sub bass speakers, reproducing exceptionally deep notes that are felt as well as heard at whatever volume level is set. If set too high, no damage should result because the built-in electronics limit cone movement. This electronic control, called Set-Safe, constantly and instantaneously monitors the output from the power amplifier and is totally transparent in operation until required, detecting the point of incipient clipping and gently soft-clipping the waveform to ensure actual clipping does not occur. A thermal overload device is also fitted; if the unit is deliberately over-driven, it senses the temperature rise and cuts the output, with a recovery time of approximately five minutes.
