REL Serie T: Tzero MKIII – 6.5" Powered Subwoofer

Tzero MKIII brings fast, expressive bass to intimate environments — perfect for offices, apartments, studios, and smaller living spaces. In many ways the most difficult design REL has ever executed, it delivers a great deal of the character, unique features, and sound quality of REL’s larger and costlier models in a remarkably compact form. Significantly, it is the least expensive REL to include the famous High Level Input, key to obtaining a perfect blend with one’s speakers, along with a separate .1/LFE input stage with its own volume control to get theatre levels and music perfect with no remote or racing to adjust.

  • 6.5” (165mm) long-throw aluminum-cone down-firing active driver
  • 100-watt (RMS) NextGen Class D amplifier
  • –6 dB at 37 Hz Low Frequency Extension
  • Sealed (acoustic-suspension) closed-box cabinet
  • Wireless via HT-Air MKII (sold separately)
  • 15 lbs. (6.8 kg) Weight
  • Made in China
  • 3 Year Warranty

Highlights & Key Technologies

Miracle in Miniature
Tzero is, in many ways, the most difficult design REL has ever executed, because never before has REL delivered so much for so little. It features five coats of black or white high-gloss lacquer as in all Serie T, NextGen Class D amplification, the famous High Level Input, plus a separate .1/LFE input stage with its own volume control to get theatre levels and music perfect without racing to adjust or looking for a remote control. The jewel of the MKIII is the new aluminum-coned driver, a rugged 6.5” unit with exceptional output and low bass extension for its size. While it won’t drive medium or large rooms hard, Tzero MKIII remains a miracle in miniature.

Outsized Performance
At REL, every clean-sheet design begins by defining and designing the best bass engine for a given application. The long-throw 6.5” driver is REL’s smallest to date, but make no mistake, it is powerful and articulate, able to fill smaller spaces effortlessly. The MKIII’s primary upgrade lies in its down-firing active driver: a damped aluminium driver that achieves exceptional rigidity, going a long way toward producing a sound far more impactful than its diminutive stature would suggest. Damping on the rear of the cone ensures the driver does not ring and result in a lightweight presentation. Have a much larger space? Distribute several throughout for an unobtrusive, spacious presentation of music and film sound.

Brains & Brawn
Though Tzero MKIII is REL’s entry-level model, that doesn’t mean it can’t punch far above its weight class. 100 high-current watts from a NextGen Class D amp means it holds its head high and is capable of delivering many years of satisfying performance. It features the same high-quality input filters, crossovers, and limiters as REL’s larger models, and includes a full REL connectivity suite, a fast 8 ms delay filter set, the famed High Level Input, a separate .1/LFE input with its own level control, and a standby circuit that reliably comes alive at very low levels.

REL Sub-Bass System Design & Connectivity
REL products are not traditional subwoofers, but true Sub-Bass Systems, designed to augment the performance of full-range speaker systems to provide, in certain cases, linear response below 12 Hz. To increase versatility of connection, the Tzero MKIII has three separate inputs: a High Level input via Neutrik SpeakOn, a .1/LFE phono input, and a Low Level phono input, facilitating use with both two-channel stereo systems and AV surround sound systems. The High Level, unbalanced, dual-channel input accepts the stereo signals from the speaker terminals of your receiver, integrated amplifier, or basic amplifier, ensuring the subwoofer receives exactly the same signal as the main speakers so that the character of the bass from the main system is carried forward into the Sub-Bass System. Combined with REL’s Natural RollOff circuitry, this ensures superior integration with the main system. The amplifier’s input impedance is 150,000 ohms, in effect producing no additional load on the rest of the system, and internal circuitry allows seamless connection to Class-D (digital) main amplifiers. High Level and .1/LFE inputs can be used simultaneously; the .1/LFE input bypasses the Natural RollOff crossover and passes the low-level signal through only the required 120 Hz fourth-order filter.

Power Saving & Standby
The Tzero MKIII features an automatic standby mode enabled when the rear power mode switch is set to “STANDBY.” In this mode the input signal is constantly monitored for activity; if no audio is detected over a period of fifteen minutes, the unit enters a low-power standby mode consuming less than 0.5 watt, resuming normal operation when signal activity is detected. Alternatively, selecting “ALWAYS ON” keeps the unit ready to react instantaneously to bass transients in music or movies, which is the recommended setting for the highest performance.
