Sennheiser RS 5200 – Wireless In Ear TV Stethoset System
SennheiserSennheiser RS 5200 – Wireless TV Stethoset System
The Sennheiser RS 5200 is a digital wireless TV listening system featuring a lightweight stethoset receiver that hangs freely from your ears and rests on your chest — ideal for glasses wearers and extended listening sessions. The integrated Speech Clarity feature automatically detects and reduces background noise so you never miss another line from a movie or show. Three selectable hearing profiles alter the sound to improve speech intelligibility by boosting or attenuating specific frequency ranges, each with a built-in compression function that compensates for volume differences between quiet and loud passages. The system includes the RR 5200 stethoset receiver and the TR 5000 transmitter, which doubles as a charging dock and connects to both digital optical and analog audio sources.

Highlights & Key Technologies
Digital Wireless Transmission
The RS 5200 uses digital wireless technology operating in the 2,404 to 2,474 MHz frequency band with 8-FSK digital modulation and a maximum RF output power of 10 dBm. Audio latency is less than 60 ms. The wireless transmission range is up to 70 meters with line of sight, allowing you to move freely around your home while continuing to hear your TV audio. If you leave the transmission range, audio drops out occasionally at first before the connection breaks down completely — you hear alert beeps and the Receiver status LED flashes green (or red if the battery is almost empty). If you re-enter the transmission range within 5 minutes, the connection is automatically re-established. If you spend more than 5 minutes outside the range, the stethoset receiver switches off automatically. The transmitter should be placed at least 50 cm (20 inches) away from other wireless devices and not near metal objects such as shelf bars, reinforced concrete walls, or other metal structures that could decrease range. If the stethoset receiver is outside the transmission range for more than 5 minutes, or if the transmitter receives no audio signal for more than 30 minutes, the wireless headphone system switches off automatically (standby).
Hearing Profiles & Sound Enhancement
The RS 5200 features three selectable hearing profiles that alter the sound of the audio signal to improve speech intelligibility by specifically changing certain frequency ranges. Hearing Profile 1 slightly boosts low-frequency tones to provide a warm, full sound while reproducing high-frequency tones less piercing and clanking. Hearing Profile 2 strongly boosts high-frequency tones to provide a crystal-clear sound, especially for sibilants and high-frequency tones such as the twittering of birds. Hearing Profile 3 attenuates low-frequency tones so that they cannot mask high-frequency tones. All three hearing profiles feature a compression function which compensates for volume differences by boosting the volume of quiet passages and reducing the volume of loud passages if necessary. With no hearing profile selected, the sound from the connected audio source is reproduced unchanged and without compression. The hearing profile is selected using the Hearing profile button on the transmitter (press for 2 seconds to cycle), and the activated profile is saved on the stethoset receiver — meaning if you use several receivers with one transmitter, each receiver retains its own personalized hearing profile. For best results, Sennheiser recommends selecting a program where speech is foregrounded and ensuring only one receiver is connected to the transmitter during adjustment. Since hearing may change over time, Sennheiser recommends repeating the hearing profile selection periodically.
Speech Intelligibility Function
When speech is mixed with annoying background noise, it can be difficult to understand. The speech intelligibility function automatically detects and reduces annoying background noise by permanently analyzing the audio signal and adjusting it so that speech is foregrounded and easier to understand. This is particularly useful for TV motion pictures, TV series, audio books, and sportscasts where dialogue may be muffled by background music or stadium noise. The function can be activated or deactivated by pressing the Speech intelligibility button on the stethoset receiver. When activated, the Transmitter status LED lights up blue; when deactivated, it lights up white. The speech intelligibility function can be used in combination with any of the three hearing profiles. If you switch to the next hearing profile, the speech intelligibility function is automatically deactivated so you can hear the hearing profile unchanged.
Connectivity & Setup
The TR 5000 transmitter connects to your TV or audio source via either a digital optical input (marked pink) or an analog 3.5 mm jack input (marked blue). The digital optical input accepts PCM audio signals only — surround sound formats are not supported, and the connected device's audio format must be set to "PCM" with a sampling rate of max. 96 kHz. Supported data streams are PCM, 32–96 kHz / 16–24 bit. The analog input accepts an input voltage range of 0.15 to 4.0 Vpk. If both inputs are connected simultaneously, only the analog audio source is reproduced. For audio sources with RCA outputs, the included RCA adapter (3.5 mm jack socket to 2 RCA connectors) can be used. For SCART outputs, a separately ordered SCART adapter is available. For TVs with only an HDMI output, a separately ordered active HDMI audio adapter is required. For audio sources with a 6.3 mm (¼") headphone socket, a separately ordered 3.5 mm-to-6.3 mm adapter is needed. Some TV models mute the loudspeakers when the transmitter is connected to the 3.5 mm headphone socket — check the TV menu to deactivate the muting function, or use a different connection method. The supplied optical digital cable is 1.5 m and the supplied stereo audio cable with 3.5 mm jack plugs is 1.5 m.
Multi-Receiver Capability
Up to 4 stethoset receivers can be simultaneously connected to a single TR 5000 transmitter, allowing multiple listeners to enjoy the same audio source at their own preferred volume levels. The stethoset receiver and transmitter are factory pre-paired. Additional receivers can be paired via contact pairing (placing the receiver into the transmitter's charging compartment) or proximity pairing (placing the receiver close to the transmitter, switching it on, and simultaneously pressing and holding the Volume +/– buttons until the Receiver status LED flashes red). When more than one receiver is connected to the transmitter, the remaining operating time/charge status and hearing profile cannot be displayed, and the balance and hearing profile cannot be adjusted — these functions are only available when a single receiver is connected.
Volume & Balance
The RR 5200 stethoset receiver features Volume + and Volume – buttons for independent volume adjustment. When the minimum or maximum volume is reached, you hear a beep. If you have set a very high volume level and switch the system off and on again, the volume is reset to a moderate level to protect your hearing. The balance buttons on the transmitter (L and R) allow for left/right volume adjustment so you hear equally well with both ears. The balance setting is stored on the stethoset receiver, meaning each receiver retains its own personalized balance when multiple receivers are used with one transmitter. Simultaneously pressing the L and R balance buttons for 3 seconds resets the balance to the middle setting. To prevent accidental adjustment, both the balance and hearing profile settings can be protected via the advanced settings mode.
Battery & Charging
The RR 5200 stethoset receiver features a built-in BAP 800 lithium polymer rechargeable battery (3.7 V, 350 mAh) providing up to 12 hours of operating time with a complete charging cycle of approximately 3 hours. Before first use, charge the battery for a complete cycle without interruption. To charge, place the stethoset receiver into the transmitter's charging compartment so that the volume buttons face upwards — the receiver is magnetically oriented to the correct position and automatically switches off. The Battery LED on the transmitter displays the charge status during charging via LED segments, and all segments light up when fully charged. Always store the stethoset receiver in the transmitter's charging compartment to ensure it is fully charged when needed; the intelligent battery charging technology prevents overcharging. When the battery is almost empty, the Receiver status LED lights up red and you hear 2 beeps. An optional MCA 800 charging adapter can also be used for independent charging without the transmitter. The rechargeable battery is built into the receiver housing and does not require regular replacement, but if operating time decreases drastically or a charging error occurs, the battery may need to be replaced by an authorized Sonova Consumer Hearing partner (replacement during the warranty period must be performed by an authorized partner to maintain warranty).
Ear Pads & Comfort
The RS 5200 includes four types of ear pads to suit different preferences. Silicone ear pads (large, pre-mounted, and small) provide easy alignment and are easy to clean with long-lasting durability. Memory foam ear pads offer a comfortable, ambient noise-attenuating fit — with intensive use, the memory effect wears off after a few months and the pads should be replaced. Open foam ear pads are designed for pressure-sensitive ears and lightweight comfort over long periods, though their hygienic durability is limited and they should be cleaned regularly. Ear pads are replaceable by reaching behind them with your fingernails to detach, then pressing new pads onto the receiver until the rubber ring locks into place. Ear pads can be cleaned under lukewarm running water and must air dry at room temperature for at least 12 hours before reuse.
Stethoset Design & Wearing
The RR 5200 stethoset receiver is worn so that it hangs freely from the ears and rests lightly on the chest. Ear bows feature an on/off function — pull the ear bows apart to switch on, fold them together to switch off (the receiver automatically switches off after 20 seconds). When putting the receiver on, observe the L (left) and R (right) markings on the rear of the ear bows, with the volume buttons facing away from your body. The ear pads should be positioned just in front of the ear canals with a gentle pressure on the ears — the pads adapt to ear form and any feeling of pressure should disappear after a short time. If using memory foam ear pads, they can be compressed slightly to adjust to ear shape. The TR 5000 transmitter doubles as a charging dock and receiver stand, providing a clean setup next to your TV or audio system.
Advanced Settings
The RS 5200 features a protected settings mode for advanced configuration. To activate, disconnect the transmitter from power, press and hold the Hearing profile button, and reconnect the power supply — the Transmitter status LED flashes blue. Within this mode, you can toggle the battery status display between permanently active and auto-off after 30 seconds (Balance button L), activate or deactivate the charging reminder function that flashes the Battery LED for 10 minutes after shutdown (Balance button R), and activate or deactivate hearing profile and balance protection to prevent accidental changes (Volume + button on stethoset receiver placed in charging compartment). Settings are saved by disconnecting the transmitter from power. Factory default settings can be restored by simultaneously pressing and holding the L, Hearing profile, and R buttons while reconnecting power for at least 3 seconds.
